The largest part: Cerebrum is the largest part of the human brain, and makes 85% of the total brain. The cerebrum is the thinking part of the brain and it controls your voluntary muscles. So you can't play chess or cricket without your cerebrum. The cerebrum has two halves. The right half helps you think about abstract things like music, colours, and shapes. The left half is said to be more analytical, helping you with math, logic, and speech.
Cerebellum is the second largest part of the brain but is only 1/8th the size of cerebrum. It controls balance, movement, and coordination. It helps you to dodge a ball and skate!
The Brain Stem controls reflexes, heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure. It calms you down after a run with your friends or gingerly pumps in more blood while you're running.
Pituitary Gland is the size of a pea. But, do not go on the size, for this is the gland that helps you to grow and also converts food to give you maximum energy.
Hypothalamus regulates temperature of your body. It tells the body to sweat, if you feel hot or shiver if you feel too cold. Both are attempts to get your body's temperature back to normal.
Neurons are the brain nerve cells. There are about 100 billion of them. When you were born, your brain came with all the neurons it will ever have, but many of them were not connected. When you learn new things, messages travel from one neuron to another, over and over making a new pathway! Depends on how many, you make.
Human brain is about 1.36 kgs, about 2% of the total body weight.
It is made up of 75% water and uses 20% of the total oxygen in the body.
The sperm whale is a marine mammal species, having the largest brain of any animal.
Invertebrates such as sponges, jellyfish, adult sea squirts and starfish do not have a brain.
